Detailed instructions will be given in class, but this summary should assist you!!

Week One Assignment 
Write your three paragraph Autobiography Essay - Draft #1!  
  • ​Use the Brainstorming Sheet to assist you with your planning!!
  • If you already know how, please add Dress-Ups and Sentence Openers to this draft!!

​To be turned in next time:
 Nothing, unless you feel your Autobiography Essay is at its best after our class review next time

Week Two Assignment
Write your Autobiography Essay - Draft #2!  
  • If you have not yet done so, please enhance your Autobiography Essay with Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, and Transitions!!  :-D  Use the Dress-Up & Sentence Openers Handouts as well as the Transition Cheat Sheet to help you!  :-D
  • Please label your Dress-Ups and Sentence Openers!!

  • You will turn in this draft along with the CHECKLIST and your Brainstorming Sheet and any note-taking/planning sheets you used to assist you!!  :-D  

Week Three Assignment
Write your three paragraph President Report - Draft #1  
  • Read & research from the source(s) provided or feel free to find your own sources!!
  • Take notes using the brainstorming sheet provided OR simply use it as a guide!
  • Create an Outline!  This will serve as a bridge between your notes and your paper by helping you organize your information!
  • Write your rough draft! Include three body paragraphs with an Introductory Statement and a Final Clincher!
  • Enhance your writing with Dress-Ups and Sentence Openers!  Use the Checklist provided as your guide!
  • Label your Dress-Ups and Sentence Openers!!  Follow the Instruction Sheet provided for more details!!

  • You will turn in this draft along with the CHECKLIST and your Brainstorming Sheet and any note-taking/planning sheets you used to assist you!!  :-D

Week Four Assignments
Edit your corrected and returned Autobiography Essay into a polished Final Draft - Draft #3!
  • Apply the edits and suggestions for improvement and revise your essay accordingly!  :-D 
​​Start thinking about a plot for a story you will be writing!!
  • You may use a completely original plot that you have created!!
  • OR you may use a familiar storyline and adapt it  in whatever way you choose!!  Any storyline will do.  Consider the "Seven Basic Plotlines" list (handed out in class) as a source for ideas if you need assistance!

  • You will turn in The final polished Autobiography Essay along with the (1) corrected rough draft and the (2) CHECKLIST!  :-D
  • Which Sentence Opener Is This? Worksheet (based on David Copperfield!) 

Week Five Assignments
We begin our "Narrative Essay" Unit!  We will be writing a story!!  This week, we begin our planning!
  • Fill out the Key Elements of a Narrative Story Worksheet!!
  • Optional - if it helps you, create a Plotline Chart!!  :-D  (This can be particularly helpful for "visual learners"!)

​To be turned in next time:
  • You will bring your completed Key Elements Sheet to be evaluated by Mrs. Mueller in class!  You will need this for your writing, so you will not turn it in yet!  :-D
  • "Fascinating and Fabulous Ferris Wheels" Essay Labeling Worksheet!  Please label Dress-Ups and Sentence Openers on this essay!!  Identifying strong elements of style in the writing of others will help you learn to add more in your own writing!!  Yay!  :-)  

Week Six Assignments
​Continue working on your story!
  • Fill in the Brainstorming Sheet about your Protagonist and Antagonist (Optional if it's helpful!)  
  • Make a list of "Character Combos" for your characters!  This will help you immensely as you begin writing!!  Create a wide variety!
Edit your corrected and returned President Report into a polished Final Draft - Draft #2!!  
  • ​Apply the edits and suggestions for improvement and revise your report accordingly!!  :-D

​To be turned in next time:
  • You will turn in the final polished President Report along with the (1) corrected rough draft and (2) CHECKLIST!!  :-D 
  • Bring your completed list of Character Combos to class to be evaluated by Mrs. Mueller!  You will need these for your writing, so you will not turn them in yet!  :-D

Week Seven Assignments
Write your "Narrative Essay" (Story) - Draft #1!!  :-D  
  • ​Follow the Story Sequence Chart:   (1) Setting / Characters    (2) Conflict / Plot    (3) Climax / Resolution
  • Write at least three paragraphs - one for each section of the story sequence chart.  However, feel free to make it longer!!
  • Enhance with Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, Transitions, Dialogue, Vivid Sensory Words!  Add Decorations!!

​To be turned in next time:
  • You will turn in your Narrative Story 1st Draft! along with:  the CHECKLIST, the Key Elements worksheet, the Plotline Chart, the Brainstorming sheet on your Protagonist & Antagonist (if you used it), & your Character Combos list!!  :-) 
  • Which Decoration Is This?  Worksheet  :-)  
  • ING Verb Opener Worksheet!  :-)  

Week Eight Assignments
Write your three paragraph report on a Famous American- Draft #1!!
  • Read & research from the source(s) provided or feel free to find your own sources!!
  • Take notes using the brainstorming sheet provided OR simply use it as a guide!
  • Create an Outline!  This will serve as a bridge between your notes and your paper by helping you organize your information!
  • Write your rough draft! Include three body paragraphs with an Introductory Statement and a Final Clincher!

Week Ten Assignment
Write a "Seasonal Poem" of at least 16 lines - Draft #1
  • To assist you in developing similes, metaphors, and alliterations, please fill out the Brainstorming Worksheet handed out in class!!

  • You will turn in Draft #1 of your poem along with the CHECKLIST and the Brainstorming Worksheet!

Week Eleven Assignment
Write your Five Paragraph "Three Days Left" Essay - Draft #1!!  :-D
  • This essay is based on an essay written by Helen Keller!  In this essay, you ponder and write about what you would do if you only had three days left to see ...or to hear ...or to touch ...or to smell ...or to taste ...or even to walk!  (your choice!)
  • Take notes from your own thoughts using the brainstorming sheet provided OR simply use it as a guide!
  • Create an Outline!  This will serve as a bridge between your notes and your paper by helping you organize your information!
  • Write your rough draft! Include three body paragraphs with an Introductory Paragraph and a Conclusion!
  • Enhance your writing with Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, and Decorations!  Add a Triple or two!  Use the Checklist provided as your guide!
  • Label your Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, Decorations, and Triples!!

​To be turned in next time:
  • You will turn in this draft along with the CHECKLIST and your Brainstorming Sheet and any note-taking/planning sheets you used to assist you!!  :-D 

Week Twelve Assignment

Week Thirteen Assignments

Edit your corrected and returned Three Days Left Essay into a polished final draft!
  • Apply the edits and suggestions for improvement and revise it accordingly!!  :-D
Study Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, Decorations, and Triples to prepare for the Final Exam!!
  • Use the Final Exam Study Guide to prepare for the test.  
  • You will be allowed to use the study guide during the final.
  • You may write notes on the study guide to help you organize your "knowledge" to prepare!  

​To be turned in next time:
  • You will turn in your polished final draft of your Three Days Left Essay with the (1) corrected rough draft and (2) CHECKLIST!!  :-D
